Women’s voices are not optional in peacebuilding—they are essential. This principle was the driving force behind our “She Speaks Peace” programme, an initiative dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and sparking tangible solutions for lasting peace and security in Nigeria’s complex landscape. The programme brought together great minds and changemakers to share stories, challenge the status quo, and forge a path forward.
The urgency of this work is underscored by verifiable data. According to research from the Council on Foreign Relations, peace agreements with women’s participation are 35% more likely to last at least 15 years. Yet, in Nigeria and globally, structural, cultural, and institutional barriers continue to sideline women from the negotiating table. This event was designed to move beyond acknowledging this problem to actively dismantling it.
“What an inspiring journey! The She Speaks Peace Programme brought together great minds and changemakers to amplify voices, share stories and spark solutions for lasting peace.”

In partnership with Basic Rights Watch and the National Women’s Platform on Security Sector Reforms, the programme produced a powerful policy brief with clear recommendations for change. We are advocating for the implementation of quotas for women in formal peace processes, the allocation of sustainable funding for women-led peace initiatives, and the integration of peace education in schools. By breaking these barriers, we can build a more sustainable peace for all Nigerians.
