The challenge of plastic waste in our communities requires innovative solutions that do more than just clean up—they must also empower people. This was the driving philosophy behind our Plastics to Creative Crafts (P3C) initiative in Uke, a powerful journey of transformation for both the environment and the participants.
In partnership with our sustainability champions at Ecocykle, this project trained women and members of vulnerable groups to turn discarded plastic waste into beautiful, useful, and marketable crafts. More than just a recycling program, this initiative was a hands-on workshop in creativity, green skills development, and economic empowerment. It provided a tangible demonstration of how a circular economy can function at the community level.
The initiative showcases the incredible resilience and ingenuity of the participants, who learned to transform a pressing environmental problem into a direct opportunity for sustainable livelihoods. By building these green skills, we are not only addressing plastic pollution but also fostering economic independence and promoting a culture of resourcefulness. Let’s continue to build circular solutions and transform communities together.
“Together with Ecocykle & partners, we trained 70 women & vulnerable groups to turn plastic waste into useful crafts promoting green skills, creativity & economic inclusion.”
