Activism Fatigue among Advocates of Social and Political Change

The Agora by YouPaD Returns this Friday, 28 April 2023.

Creating change can undoubtedly be a daunting challenge. Change, whether political or social, also cannot happen overnight. It is a long, drawn-out process which involves hard work on many levels. Hence, activists may face unique challenges, primarily due to the emotional investment in their initiatives and the understanding (through lived or acquired experiences) of the implications of injustice.

Thus, there may come a point when even the most hardworking activists feel overwhelmed in their efforts. The consequence is the result of activist fatigue, a type of burnout that occurs when working towards a goal that involves emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion.

The Young Professionals in Policy and Development (YouPaD) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Nigeria will host an intergenerational and interdisciplinary conversation on the issues of Activism fatigue.
