Youth Agora Nsukka: Driving Youth Participation in Nigerian Politics

Rebuilding the trust of young people in politics and political processes is central to ensuring peace and sustainable development in Nigeria. This was the core objective of our “Agora” project at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where YouPaD and FES partnered with the Equity Watch Initiative (EWI) to engage students and drive youth participation in governance.

The event provided a crucial platform for students to voice their concerns, challenge existing norms, and explore their role in shaping a more accountable political system. The discussion, led by esteemed resource persons like Dr. Freedom C. Onuoha, moved beyond identifying problems to exploring concrete solutions for increasing youth representation and influence.

“We are grateful to YouPaD and FES for the partnership.” – Equity Watch Initiative

These moments reflect a generation that is ready and willing to engage but requires credible platforms to do so. By taking these conversations directly to university campuses, we are helping to cultivate a new generation of politically aware and active citizens who are prepared to demand and create change.
